I was messing around with my brother's DSLR a few days ago. I found this while looking through the pictures and thought you guys might be interested. I never knew their barbels looked like that!

Fishdance - I think you might be getting barbels and subocular spines confused. I'm happy that you did though - those are some excellent shots!
 
I had no idea the barbels were almost "serrated" like that. Kind of remind me of Synodontis chin barbels, but not quite as feathery.

"Barbels" and "barbs" are not the same thing haha. This thread was to show off the barbels aka whiskers, not the suboccular spines, but those pictures are cool too.

And those spines are nothing to mess around with. While moving my old 6-7" clown, it got me really good right in the center of my palm. They are SHARP
