Clown loach growth / power feeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
greying is also a sign of pecking order too in a large shoal. its a visual communication to state dominance amongst the group. angry clowns go very dark. some go dark due to other reasons . you have to watch them and study. ive got a solitary clown in one of my cichlid tanks. hes thriving in there and thinks its a cichlid now and competes for food in a way ive never seen before. starting to grow at an alarming rate. say an 1 inch per month.

I agree, variety of diet is key, along with clean warm water (84f). Be prepared to change a lot of water when feeding heavy.. Also once you see an Alpha establish himself. Remove him from the tank for a while, you can re introduce him weeks later. This trend will continue and I play musical chairs.

I get my best growth when following this procedure

i agree with this method for sure !@! it works and helps the others grow

I have to agree with the growth rates of the 2 seperate species of loach to vary quiet drasticly.
Sumatra loaches are alot more colorful. Tend to not "grey out" as much and will grow at a slow rate. Not very hard to identify either, The pectoral fin is red while the Borneo loach have a mainly black pectoral.
There is even a higher quality loach from Kalimantan that is stunning. Almost like the Samatra loach, but with redder coloration and a silver sheen. These guys are extremely rare.
Borneo loaches are a lot more abundant in the trade. Most what all lfs and big pet store chains carry. I think high protein and removing the dominant sounds like the best method ive read on here.
