I have two little clown loaches that seem to swim odd. All other loaches I've seen swim pretty fast and have no problem moving around to get to the top of the tank for food. This is not the case with mine, it seems like they have a hard time swimming to the surface for food. I'm not concerned about them not getting food for the pellets they are fed sink but I'm worried somthing might be wrong with them. Is this a needless worry or could somthing be wrong?

What size tank are they in, is it cycled? What are your numerical readings for nitrate, nitrite and ammonia? How long have you had them, how long has the tank been set up? How often do you clean the tank and how much water do you change each time? What are they being fed? What else lives in the tank?

You have said only 2 clown loaches, they are a schooling fish and need to be housed in groups of at least 5-6.

Please answer the questions so that an educated understanding of what is happening can be made.

They are currently in a 30 gallon with a small sailfin pleco and two dwarf honey gouramis. I understand this tank is not suitable for life but as these guys are still very little I have plans to move them to a bigger tank when they get bigger. Levels all read out as perfect and they 25% water changes weekly. The tank was fully cycled before any fish were put in and I've these guys almost two months. They get fed sinking pellets once a day along with cucumber every once in a while as well.

The sailfin pleco and the loaches need a bigger tank a LOT sooner than later. They won't grow in a 30, instead they will stunt and die.

Please define "perfect". What are the NUMERICAL readings for nitrate, nitrite and ammonia?

There are approximately 300 types of "sinking pellet", what are they eating?

If your nitrates are zero, there is something wrong!

Is this a planted tank?

What kind of a test kit are you using? Your nitrates are NOT zero. Makes me wonder how useless the rest of the numbers are?

Need better water changes.. From what i've observed and having my own.. Clown Loach are very sensitive.. if there is a sudden high in Nitrate.. these guys will all swim funny and look like they are dying..

Recommend doing a 35-50% water change... Should be enough to keep the CLs happy....

What filters are u using for your 30gallon?

How could that ever happen? Nitrates build up in water over time? Even a grossly overstocked and undermaintained tank requires at least a week to build up nitrates!
