I use black sand (Loaches dont like gravel), lots of driftwood & plants. Give them plenty of hiding spots if you want to see them out & about!

There are some nice realistic fake plants out there. Any silk plant will do if its sanitized properly, too. I think the finer gravels may work, but make sure there are no sharp pieces. The sharp gravel will tear up the CL's barbels around their mouth.

Really? Damn I just picked up some CL's and my tank has black gravel. I thought about removing the gravel as it's a pain in the butt to maintain. Now I think I will remove it. Thanks for the advice.

Nice Setup Ozwald. Will have some of my current up later this week. Still adjusting things on the puter....

Next project is a dwarf snakeshead tank, so watch this space

Oz, If you look for Mr_As 75G planted tank thread you can get a look at mine before it all gets shifted to the 220......

really? I just recently got a 90g tank and it came with some lava rocks, could the cl's live in there without getting cut up too badly, they aren't in there yet.

You wouldn't want a lava rock substrate, since they use their mouth to dig for scraps, but large chunks of lava rock as decor shouldn't be an issue...
