Can I keep a group of 5-6 small (2") clowns in a 30 gallon tank? This would be a long-term temporary thing. When I say "long term", I mean considering how slow they grow, can they stay comfortably in a tank this size for a year or two? I am fully aware of the potential size this fish can reach, as well as their activity levels and need for clean water, and so will either accomidate them with a 100G+ eventually or sell them off when they get too big

They will be fine for awhile. They grow better in larger tanks, but you probably have a year or two.

how about a 75? same number. 4 life?

Sorry, I should have clarified... The ULTIMATE long term goal is to have a CLOWN TANK with inhabitants consisting of a couple of clown knives and a school of clown loaches. So as you can see, I will need a 150-300G tank eventually anyways :D But considering how slow loaches grow and difficulty/price of obtaining adult specimens, I would like to raise my own even if it takes me a few years before this plan is implemented

So 1-2 years in a 30G tank... Yay or nay?

no. you misunderestimated me. i was asking to find out if i could put a few in MY tank. lol

yay.

I got mine 2 years ago at 1.5-2" and they have always been in a 75 or 85 gallon tank. Currently they are in the 4-5" range. A 30 gallon will be fine.

How do you figure? Clown loaches should reach 5 inches in less than year if not they are being stunted.
