Is $2 for a 2 in. a clown loach a good deal and can they live with african cichlids?

Yep. It's quite a bargain and no, they can't live with African cichlids.

2$ for 2in. is a good deal but sometimes smaller loaches like that won't eat and eventually die. if you get it, feed it bloodworms to get it eating. clown loaches also like to be in groups. Also, i have seen clown loaches in african cichlid tanks. I havent kept them like that myself, but people do it and say its fine.

If his cichlids turn out to be mbunas, well then, his mbunas will expire from bloat at the cause of a 2 bucks clown loach for feeding it meaty foods. This is one reason I don't advocate the combination. I tried the combination myself and it never worked especially when the mbunas tend to be pushovers.

I don't recommend Loaches with African Cichlids either. Why ruin a perfectly good loach tank with aggressive fish and a high pH?

do you keep your africans in fresh or brackish water? if you keep them in brackish, its prob. a no go. loaches are sensitive to salt. that said, i have seen clown loaches in brackish tanks with african cichlids, and they were fine. actually looked really good.
