I have a bunch of 3.5" cl's with a 6" del and 6" senegal fine...but thinking about buying a lapredei that's 9"...will it eat my cl's? anyone have experience with this sort of setup?

hi..

I have 12" Delhezi Bichir with 5 CLs at about 4" Total Length. He doesn't bother them at all. The clownies like to rest on him like a couch. It's pretty comical.

They also have sub-ocular spines beneath each eye as defense mechanism.

For those who are wondering what the hell sub-ocular spines are here ya go
oh they tend to be razor sharp

the crunching noise is definitely the chewing noise from your cl's...mine "click" all the time

I you are going to get a lapradei the clowns will get eaten when the lapradei becomes of size. There is a member on this board that had a small endli attempt to eat a small clown loach. Endli could not get the loach down. Unfortunately both fish ended up dying. Remember that our cute little polys are still predators and will hunt during the night and eat your little clownys.:D

I've got a 12" ornate with some small-ish clowns. It didn't work when I first got him because he took a while to start eating, and would have a go at the loaches when the lights were out so I seperated them. I recently added them to his tank again, he's grown about 2" (and a lot fatter) since I got him but he also happily eats beefheart and shrimp. I guess if he's not starving he'd rather eat a piece of heart than chase down a CL with sharp spines!
