In my 300g, I have a shoal of clown cloaches in the 6-8 inch range with 2 ornates at about 14" and 15", a 15" endlicheri, and a 19.5 inch endli. I got the bichirs small and let them grow up with the larger loaches. I have no problems at all in my tank with this mix. Of course, I never use feeders and I feed my fish well.
Anyone have luck keeping clown loaches with their bichirs? I understand a large clown loach is fine but will smaller one likely become lunch if the bichirs are kept well fed? Experiences?
very likely ... i've once spotted my ornate snatched a clown , its small loach but still too big to swallow
if i hadn't free the loach , i might had casualities on both side
years ago I had 3 clown loaches "disappear" in a 220 full of African cichlids, plecos, and an ornate bicher. It was never officially confirmed, but the bicher had a guilty look about him LOL.
It can go either way..... I had about 18 small clown loaches @ about 2-3"s..... they slowly started disappearing.... my 4"-5" endlis where eating them.....
So how big of a CL could a 12-14" Ornate eat? I'm thinking about shifting my aquarium focus over to Clown Loaches, I'm alright with re-homing my Endlicheris, but my 11" Ornate would be hard to let go of.
