So, I have my son's 10 gal Glowfish set up, along with my tank for my fire eels, and they both used to have terrible brown algae. However, I added a small, 2" or so, clown pleco to help clean the tank and within a few weeks the clown pleco had cleaned the entire tank and decor completely clean of the brown algae, and he now keeps it clean.

Now, for my fire eel tank. Long story short, it's taken me a lot longer to get my 220 going than I planned on, but it should be soon. Because of this, my two fire eels, which are about 10", are still in my 29 gallon aquarium. They are the only fish in this tank. It has a pretty large amount of brown algae on the walls and decor. Do you all think that I could look at adding a 2" clown pleco, or two, to this tank to try to remedy the brown algae or do you think that it wouldn't get along with the fire eels?

Thanks for your help!

When I had my peacock eel it didn't bother the BNs I had in that tank it was only 8" at the time before I traded it

Why not use those scrubbies for the algae? I get algae as well and do weekly water changes I just clean off the built up algae when I change the water

I agree with the above, adding more bioload to an already small tank doesn't sound like a good idea, when maintenance on a small tank is quite easy... just get a scrubber, scrub the algae off, and go do a water change right after to remove the floating algae...

I was really hoping that the clown pleco would be able to get all of the decor clean as well as the walls of the tank. I do weekly ~60% water changes on the tank, and that keeps my nitrates in check. I also run a SunSun 303B and an internal filter for a total of about 400gph turnover.

I was thinking a clown pleco because they don't seem to be as aggressive, and they don't get that large. According to my LFS, they only get to about 4". Not completely sure on that, but they still don't get anywhere near as big as a common pleco.

yet again i agree with everyone the fire eels are usually quite peaceful and would not harm your pleco under one condition. they have enough space. if they don't they get territorial and frankly for those two fish with a pleco is too much for a 29 gallon

Ok, I can understand that. I am really trying to get my 220 set up so that I can move the fire eels into it. I originally got them at 4" and my plan was to only keep them in the 29 for a month or two before having the 220 set up, but that has taken me a lot longer to do than I thought it would.

scrub off the existing algae and turn off the light for few days, turn on when you around the tank and viewing your eels, if the tank near window then try to keep the shade close as much as possible, your eels don't need light to feel happy. I wouldn't put a pleco in eels tank cause pleco is notorious sucking slim coat of other fishes especially species that don't move around a lot like eels.
