Clown Pleco with Fire Eels

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah, that's nice. The bigger tank will be a permanent solution.

I wouldn't worry about the diatoms for now, especially if the plan is an upgrade. You can still try increasing the surface movement and try to feed less while the fish are in the 29G. A photos plant would also help with the diatoms , and the water quality as it will draw ammonia before it gets available to unwanted organisms and algae.

Filtration is limited to the amount of oxygen in a tank, providing the turnover is sufficient, which it is in your case. There is obviously abundant ammonia, the diatoms being an indicator. So the solution lies in one or a combination of the other things mentioned.

As far as oxygen goes, I run two air stone in the back corners that do a great job of churning the surface. I also have half of my 303B spraybar pointed toward the surface to create more movement.

I really feel like I'm missing something though. All of my parameters and my setup seems as if it's all set up correctly such that the brown algae shouldn't be a problem. Oh well, I will get them into the larger tank and I plan on putting some live plants in that tank, and possibly some pothos in the sump. We will see.

Thank you all for your help.
