One of my clowns looks like it is developing HITH. Are causes and treatment the same as for freshwater?
I was thinking clean water + hex shield. Anything else I should do?

Do you use carbon?
I don’t know for clowns but I know in my experience with tangs (yellow and Hepatus blue tang) both started to develop some erosion, it went away after I stopped using carbon.

I do, I have been reading that there was a link. I’ll try taking it out and seeing if it makes a difference.

I have noticed that clown HITH is very rare.

I will tell the damage came on in week but took months to repair.
If you see any results I’d like to hear about it.

In QT it showed nothing. Only when I put it in the tank did the spots appear. I’d take a picture but she won’t sit still for anything.
I had this happen months ago with an occelaris (but Petco + saltwater = brook, compounded with inexperience = a dead clown before I even thought about the HITH)

Update: I haven’t done anything yet, but the holes seem to be closing up. I wonder if it was just a reaction to going into the DT.

What’s the time frame? Has it been in the display long?
Head and line erosion doesn’t heal up in just a day or two.

Been in there since last weekend (1/16 to be exact). They first showed up a few days later.

Must have been fairly minor then.
Well good to hear.
Still keeping an eye on it. Holes are still there but just smaller. After losing my first round of fish I’m paranoid this time.
