i think im goin to get like 2 clownloaches and put them in my tank with my baby p's. just so they can get those ******* snails. ill take them out after the job is done. what do u guys think?

Buddy, Mr PacosTacos, I am not being sharp here but people have already made their suggestions to this and made comments about putting fish in with your piranhas regarding your snail problem. No one on here is going to give you the thumbs up and say put those clown loaches in there while your piranhas are in there, and expect them to survive. You have to accept that more so than not, those clown loaches will turn into feeders, and attractive unnecessary feeders at that. If you want to put the loaches in and let them be food for the piranhas, so be it. But I pretty much guarantee that you will not be able to ‘take them out after the job is done’, as there will be nothing left of them to take out.

Why not try the vegetables in a container idea to get rid of the snails?

I agree and also as a big clown loach fan. They are great fish and deserve a better life than that. If they are in with p's, then they are most likely going to go straight for a hiding place, stress out, get ich and wipe out your other fish also. Please dont do it.

Don't put clown loaches in with Pirhana. They will be dead before they eat a single snail.

:iagree: Just control them bets you can with the above method. Your gonna have to get another tank for those Ps with in a few months anyhow. when you get the new tank just take measures so the snails aren't introduced to the new tank.

Mods... shouldn't this be placed in the "Bottom dwellers forum". I'd love to see the reaction posts in there. :j/k:

Just dump a bunch of algea destoyer in the tank. It hurts invertabrets like crabs and snails, and kills them. wont hurt your piranhas those.

Hmmm... copper will also get rid of them. Thats what is used in saltwater fish only tanks but only use the reccomended amount. I have never us3ed copper before but most lfs's do to cure parasites and diseases.

How big are your P's? Because if they are under 2" you could put other fish in there, but they Must be reasonably larger than your P's. Whenever I get my babys in they go right in my community tank with a couple plecos 5"&14", Fire mouth cichlid, and some catfish. Never have problems until they get bigger than 2", then they get currious and start nipping at stuff.

to be honest... even if you were to risk it, they wouldn't necessarily eat your snails. I've had plenty of different loach sp. including clowns, and they aren't all a fan of eating snails....

Davo, I have to disagree. My clowns are snail fanatics. Since I work at a LFS we have billions of snails so I just scoop some out everynight and my clownloaches go bannanas.

As for the question; dont do it. It wont work. Im surprised though that you have snails. My young Ps ate snails all the time.
