clownloaches

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with both of you, davo and jd. Out of the three groups of clowns we have ever had in my house, only two groups ate snails. One group, (which funnily enough were deliberately brought that time to target snails), did not touch them. It depends on the individual fish i believe. You might get unlucky and end up with clown loaches that have no desire for snails.

Like I said, the vegetable in the container idea is issue-proof.

i have had tigers, yoyos and clowns all bought specifically for snail eaters (aswell as their great personality) over the years, but have noticed there is no guarentee they will eat the snails. Also found this must be down to individuals, as i'd feed them the same, same water, and even same snail species. I currently have a smaller community tank completely ridden with snails, with two yoyos and they havent touched it. The yoyos i had 5 years ago would have the tank clear in minutes. I have had roughly 70:30 sucess rate with using them to eat snails, and in just the way people buy plecos to rid algae, you should always think of it as buying a fish, not something to clean your tank, as it is never guarenteed. (o and you can send my your loaches if you want, these snails are getting on my tits)

alright alright i wont do it u guys talk me in to it i hate snails!!!!!! this morning my plecosmos was dead R.I.P. Nessy:rip

"They are great fish and deserve a better life than that"

What exactly determines whether a fish is "better" than others? Don't they all deserve a better life?

Davo, I have to disagree. My clowns are snail fanatics. Since I work at a LFS we have billions of snails so I just scoop some out everynight and my clownloaches go bannanas.

As for the question; dont do it. It wont work. Im surprised though that you have snails. My young Ps ate snails all the time.
my p's never even look at snails not even when they were lil like 1" i've had em for like 4 months now there almost 5" and stilll they dont see them or just ignore them all together... i got like 20 snails =(

What is wrong with having snails in your aquarium? They will keep your tank clean. I have a 10 gallon fry tank, which I also breed snails in. They will be used to feed my puffer.

Thats what im tryin to kid myself, maybe they are helping to clean/breakdown wate. ALthough still, in my heart of hearts, i hate the little buggers

What I did was put a male and two female convics in my tank .
The male got ate .
And the two females ate almost all the snalils .
I had the cons in the tank for almost a month , They cleaned house .
I have had luck with fish that have sparkly green scales like a dempsy
or a terror or a convic exc... and they eat snails .
:headbang2
I say put in one dempsy one con and one graan terror and tell us all
how they clean house on snail and the P's do not eat them .
Good Luck . ? !:)
