If you are talking about Clown Loaches, I would avoid it. Clowns do not do well in high pH environments. Their osmoregulation is thrown off balance. They often exhibit patchy deposits on the skin and will not live a full life. Can they survive? Yes. Is it the proper environment for the animal? Definitely not.

As for snail problem, control the amount of food you give your fish. It's as simple as that.

I'm surprised as well. Most of my Mbuna like to control what goes into there tank. Any outsiders are typically judged to Death!
