IMO I would still do water changes and just add the amount of salt in for new water added. Clean water is also a huge factor in helping treat ich.

If you can afford it a digital salinity meter is very handy for that. Use it all the time when I quarantine new additions or treat with salt for healing scrapes, etc. Just be sure to let the meter dry out before placing it in another tank (also follow the pre and post measurement instructions for an accurate measurement) so you don't have any cross contamination. If I recall correctly I've read that ich can't survive without water.
