Thank you oddball.....the wife kept telling me this but its nice to hear it from a fellow fishkeeper

I'm sorry for your loss. But, please understand that the normal life expectancy for this species is about 8 years. This was simply his time and no effort was going to change the outcome. You should instead feel some pride in having provided Scary with a level of care that allowed him to surpass his normal life by a long stretch. While I'm sympathetic to your feelings of loss (I've been there myself) I feel it's more appropriate to offer congratulations to the excellent husbandry you offer to your pets.

I agree! A loss none the less but a congratulations is in order for providing Scary with nothing but the best! 11 years is a long time and a great dedication to his well being! Nothing else can say your doing a great job then having a fish or any pet out live their life expectancy.
I'm sorry Scary passed though. It's hard to care for something for that long and not be missed when they leave us.

Thanks again Amber....

I know this is a very old thread, but I am also sorry for your loss! This thread hit home because my Tiger Oscar just did the same thing almost word for word, and nothing I tried helped. He was 5.5 years old and 13 long in a 90 gallon. Three different antibiotics, two different anti-fungals, and 2 courses of anti-parasitic meds. Nothing stopped it. I also miss his greeting me every day. Thank you for sharing, it helped.

Its hard to accept a loss of a fish, especially when its your favorite.
I'd like to reiterate what the other fish hobbyist said, the fact that you got a fish whose normal lifespan is 8 years to live for 11 shows the love for him and care you gave him.
Unfortunately Father time is undefeated and as much as we hope our fish live forever, we just have to accept their loss and bask in the great times we had with them, which in your case is the legacy of the 7 tanks he has left you with.

Cheers and take care.
