Co2 and fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Go for the drop checker. You can find some good deals online, I know eBay has some. Take the guess work out of it, the amount of CO2 needed can vary as plants get added, grow ,and get trimmed back... You'll have a visual indicator every day where you can instantly see if you have ideal levels.

Won't have an indicator for ideal levels, you'll have an indicator for a starting point which you'll need to tweak by visually observing the tank and it's inhabitants.

Best thing to do is get a ph controller with a probe so you can monitor your ph and adjust it with the controller manually and it will turn on and off your co2 as needed to stay at a set ph level. Your plants will be their absolute best between 6.8-7 ph. I use the Milwalkee MC122 and it works great. FYI 4 months ago was the first time I've used co2 as well and look at this ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1367469126.522543.jpg

pH swings from CO2 don't harm fish, I have tanks go from 7 to 5 with no ill effects on fish. And you can't gauge good CO2 from setting pH to 7, so using a controller like that is pointless if you want good CO2 levels.

Good start on your tank tyjo, but your stems are showing poor lower growth so you should top them, also a lot of browning throughout the tank so you need to focus on trimming more.

Anyway to OP, take a look at these tanks seeing that it's become a show and tell.

Well for starters, here's what I'm working with. I'm unsure of some of the plant species so here's a fts. View attachment 909350
I really just started getting into planting and now that I have stock that will allow it, I'd like to do it right. I'm not looking to go out and spend a ton of money on controllers and reactors, but if there's something I need to ensure the health of my stock, I'm willing and able.

Can't see the pic.

How are you currently diffusing your CO2? The diffusion method is going to be the difference between you using CO2 efficiently, or you wasting a ton of it to get where you need to be.
