Ya got that right!! Hahaha...oh man I almost spit on the screen when i read your responses it made me laugh so hard...lol. The females have an ocelli at the base of the caudual...
. The ocelli at the base of the caudual fin is a signature of BOTH sex's of Lugubris pikes. About the only Lugubris pike that doesn't have the tail ocelli that readily comes to mind is johanna. But BOTH sexs have the ocelli...hahaha.
I've never really seen a picture of an adult cobra male, but i have seen cobra females..
. Female Lugubris pikes are generally more attractive than the males, just the way it goes...there are a few pikes where the sex's look the same and are kinda hard to tell apart, but for the most part they are different. The key thing to look for is a white stripe in the dorsal, and sometimes in the caudual...this is a KEY indicator that its a female. Top that with a pink/red belly/abdomen, you've got a female. For Saxalis pikes, its the spot in the DORSAL fin...
and the pink/red belly.
BTW...your friends pike is a male...
. Heres a picture of a female cobra from Rapps site, notice the bold colors and the white in the dorsal. Also, you can see the ocelli at the base of the caudual...lol...
