Andinoacara coeruleopunctatus spawned today in quarantine. I’ve got a pair of these in a 75 gallon display/ community that typically features young groups of growouts while they pair and spawn the first time. The male doesn’t get along with the female so she hides and didn’t get along with the other two in the group that I first got and reduced them. Leaving the two. I went ahead and grabbed another half dozen for outdoor cultivation and the first pair spawned while in quarantine in an outdoor 55 gallon glass tank where they can be observed before released into vats.
This tank has 6 Midas and 8 Coeru at the moment- talk about high pressure situation. This tank is outside and is in no way designed for display or photography but you can see the eggs in the tea cupand I’ll get a pair of these in a display for proper photography as well 0D0518A7-8AB0-4050-A7C1-7D95D182B8DD.jpegFCC51310-075A-496C-B3A6-232410E18530.jpeg9BD5E759-AD6F-48C0-9AFE-695060673316.jpeg

I wish I could get better shots right now. They’re in a tank that’s almost always got sun and glare and is one step short of a pond. It’s just a quarantine tank until they go into the vats. I’ll bring a pair in where I can get good photographs and I’ll get pictures when I net them out. I don’t know if how far this spawn will get I haven’t decided if I’m going to steal it or not but I’ll have lots of fry in a few months either way. I wanted to make sure I ha e a breeding group of 3 pairs so I can mix fry from differ t spawns and not have to send out all fry from one spawn. Trying to keep the gene pool as open as possible.

these are f1 from rio claro Costa Rica.

here’s one of my males he’s about 4” total length. The ones that spawned are maybe 3” total length. I wish I could decent pictures of the breeders right now- the way there ventral fins light up is pretty spectacular. My experience so far has been that they act how they look. About halfway between a blue acara and a GT. Fairly rowdy but not to the point that every morning you wonder if there’ll be a new dead body in the tank or on the floor.

Well this spawn was eaten so there won’t be anymore updates for a a few weeks until the next spawn. I had 3 spawns in 3 days the Coeru, a pair of Rainbows and my
Dempseys. Its just kicking off.

Pulled the fish from the glass quarantine today and threw them in there vat. The pair that spawned previously claimed a spot and was dancing together within a couple hours. Floated them for an hour. to bring them down to 68 and their bearings. Here’s a nice male, a couple Fat females a couple others. There are 10 fish in the 180 st the moment. I’ll keep the first 3 pairs in there and pull the other 4 fish.

Awesome- these fish are a real joy for me- unique as the only member of the tribe in North America. And wow- what a great look, they almost look fake when they’re in spawning mode.
These are rio claro Costa Rica f1s which has to be one of if not the furthest north populations.

where’d you get your first ones?
