Can any snakhead be kept with a jard i have kept gauchas an pleuro with a silver but i would realy love a redline or auranti. anyone done this.

Tank will be upgraded as they grow the jard is 12" in a 125g the aurants ive seen have been about 10" my jard has beat the shizzle out of a 8" oscar before.

i can tell you from experiance , jardinis and snakehead very rarely get along , dont know why but of every combination i tryed in the past jardini and snakehead just does not work.

aurantis are out - for reason above i.e they are sub-tropical

micros - do you really (or i should say can you really) want to house a fish that will need a 8 x 3 foot bare minimun for its self a lot larger if you want to try and keep the jardini, also the fact a micro would make short work of even a jardini at adult sizes , and a jardini would beat hell out of a micro while still small.

the only channa i would even consider trying with the jardini is pleuro , but even then it is a gamble, and the pleuro would need to be a bit bigger than the jardini. but that is the only option that i would think even stands a chance of working long term. plus then you can stick with a two foot wide tank , which is £££££££££ cheaper than a 3 foot wide.

your jardini is JUST at the size they start to get mean , if you think its mean now it will be nothing compared to when it has a few more inches , they go nuts over the 12" mark and would most likely kill any snakehead of the same size. snakeheads are easly intimadated by aggresive fish when smaller

if i where you i would give it a miss and save yourself some money and much heart ache

Thats a shame i dont ever see a nice sized pleuro and wouldnt really want to risk one if there hard to combo. I no off topic but tropheus what have you kept with jards.

micros , aurantis and asiatica before i knew any better , and this is how i know that channa dont get along with them .

other fish i have had some sucsess with are tapilia butti , most types of birchers , a true pair of jag chichlids , several catfish , several plecos , and several of the big cichlids like blackbelts ect . ropefish , midas cichlids , most of the stuff i had sucsess with where other quite aggressive by nature fish , genrally things that will stand up for them selves , i would stay away from things that share the upper water and try mid swimming or bottom dwelling fish , problem is any thing is risky with a large jardini , so i would stick to thing that are not too expensive ,just in case . all jardinis are diferant mine was quite peacefull as far as jardini go but still hated snakeheads , i know some people who have had them and they have accepted no tankmates at all , so it is going to be try and see via an educated guess. also the more room the jardini has the calmer they seem to be , so you may stand far better chances when you upgrade , mine was in my 9ft.

my thought was jardinis are useally deamed only fit to live on there own , so i tried other fish tagged with this label ,like the butti ,and it seamed to work fine , in the end i only got rid of the jardini to provide more room for my snakehads which i am more into , otherwize i would still have him .

good luck with whatever you decide

Cheers mate your auranti looks beautiful ill keep an eye out for some big cichlids.

Most people advise at least having anywhere between 4-5 other Arowanas living with the Jar to help curb it's aggression.

As for snakeheads, if your not going to add more aros, then don't bother even with other tankmates, unless these are big, sturdy, steadfast fish or fish that hide a lot.

This combination does not work well in my experience, I've tried keeping an Australian Aro with a Micro before and it never worked out, at least for me. When I first placed the micro in the tank the larger arowana was bullying and chasing it around the tank, after a couple days however the micro turned the tables and whenever the aro approached it would coil up somewhat like a snake and strike at the aro, then it would chase the aro around the tank and would keep darting in with quick little strikes. I decided that I would give my friend the micro the next day, but when I woke up in the morning the aro was already dead (probably from stress, it was missing alot of scales and fins) this was in an 8 foot long tank with some polys and a rtc.
