Malapterurus Electricus is the most widely distributed electric catfish. And from the picture I have seen of malapterurus barbatus the body seams to be more elongated from the head to its tail with a compact head and longer snout. Also the m. barbatus only reaches about 9" in length and seam to have a slimier trim line body. I think time will defiantly give you a positive ID. None the less you have a great specimen.
