i just rescued a 4' argentine black and white tegu and i already have one thats about 2.5'. i know they cohab well when similar in size, but i was wondering if its a good idea or not to introduce them to each other, and if so, is it alright for them to live together?

I have actually seen very young tegus co-habitate well with larger tegus. As long as the enclosure is big enough and they are fed seperatly I do not think it will be a problem. I would introduce them first in a open environment like a room and see how they take to eachother. Of course each animal is different though,.

hmmmm, maybe i will try that. but i would really appreciate some more input on the subject and some personal experiences. the little guy is my favorite and i would be devastated if something happened :(

No personal information but again I would introduce them in a open setting or atleast a place where they could see each other through glass so you can gage their reaction. I saw a video where a 3ft female tegu was temporarily introduced to a 1.5-2ft tegu in a small pen and the larger female showed the least bit of interest in the smaller tegu. So to answer your orginal questions introducing them together might not be a problem but as far as living together I would wait for the smaller one to hit atleast 3ft. it won't take long they grow super fast.

I wouldn't hesitate to introduce them to each other and allow them to interact under direct supervision... But I would not house them together full time. I go well out of my way to take steps to reduce stress to my animals and cohabitating Tegus is likely to add stress... Also if/when a problem occurs you will want a second enclsoure so you can seperate them.
