cold pleco

Does the cold water bother plecos? What does everyone use to keep algae under control in their native tanks?

There are some species of minnows that eat aglae...

plecos are tough but they still get stressed in cooler temps.
you could do it but it would be in the best intrest of the animal.

I guess I should ask what you mean by cold. How cold is cold?
Texas can get pretty darn cold and plecos seem to do pretty well as an invasive.

I'll also agree that cold may not be best for the fish but I've kept them in tanks without heaters and my buddy keeps all of his tropical tanks without heat. He's spawned more fish than I ever did with heaters.

And now I come back to the original question...how cold is cold?

Plecs are big and wild in the Silver River. 72 degrees year around.

my pleco lived almost a week in 40degree and no oxygen pump thingy

55 deg F, problem is I need him alive for more than a week .

forgot to mentino he is still alive in about 66degrees and doing great.. the person that had it before me had there power go out for a week and lost all tehre fish but that one
