Cool Lizards. Sucks for the native wildlife. I doubt it's even possible to exterminate them in FL anymore.

Iguanas have zero impact on the natives here or the enviroment . They dont bother a thing .
If anything they are gator, croc food esp in winter at night if they soak in warm waters.

Feral cats now thats a different story but iguanas have filled a truly empty niche.

hasnt dropped to those temps this year...

It was a freakish 49 last night. Tonight in low 60s.
I had planned to go herping at Glades tomorrow for Scarlet kings but guy I was going with cancelled said under 70 degrees for 2 consecutive nights they go under ground nothing under rotted logs, etc.

i woke up the morning and it was -10 hahaha

I would die at that temp . .

I have only been here over a year and freeze if temps go under 60 lol. When I first moved here from NY .I laughed at people who wore winter gloves and mittens at 60 degree temps.

I am now one of them :WHOA:

It was freakishly cold last night it dropped to 49 for an hour according to my backyard therm which tells at coldest and highest point of day. High 70s next day so that helped.

Its warmer tonight in 60s so they should be fine . Most iguanas in my area stay near the lakes, canals and simply stay in the water if chilly at night .

Thankfully such temps in S.Florida are a freak thing .
it was -7 when i woke up ant a wind chill of -25

At those temps might as well live in Antartica and not pay property tax lol .

I used to live in Long Island went to to PA every summer awesome mts and nature .
My favorite herps being salamanders are all over PA .

Funny thing is PA was thinking about banning large constrictors and lizards yet not Florida .
I cant fathom pythons breeding in the Catskills lol.

Another reason why i love FL

I try to talk this cold states folks from MFK into moving here so that I can have herping associates .

Funny isnt it so much nature here esp by Glades and most if not all of our neighbors dont even care for it.

iguana are listed as a danger to burrowing owls...a struggling species. iguana are thought to take over burrows and possibly destroy/eat eggs. also, dense iguana burrow sites cause major erosion of canals...largely a human problem, but high erosion is never good for the ecology...namely,..fish. also...favorite foods are other non-natives and iguana population aids in the spread of those non-native plants. so, to say that it has no effect on the native species is hard to believe. its a 6' lawn mower...it has to have some effect.

what bothers me is that some people try to say that the solution is to ban the sale...i have trouble seeing how that would help when there is a documented breeding population in the wild. promote the sale and promote the capture of wild lizards.
