good info Liz!

i just taught 8 classes on flu and cold today! lol

the main thing to remember is that the flu and cold are two completely different microbes. in the cold-it stays mainly in your head and face-stuffiness, headache, runny nose.

with the flu or any flu virus, you will have a fever, general malaise (your whole body is achy), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and you feel much, much worse.

the main thing i say is that when someone has a fever they are contagious! and like the classes i taught, hand washing is THE way to prevent either one.
i really cant stress how important good hand washing is this time of year... its pretty gross to see women leave public restrooms and most of them dont even bother.. using warm water and soap and washing for 20 seconds while rubbing and scrubbing is proper technique.

oh and i read somewhere that men actually wash their hands more than women do! lol.. i thought that was funny.

Good to wash your hands, but it actually doesn't do jack for preventing H1N1, due to its spreading through airborne microbes.

^This.

I came home from Cali sick in May, got my gf sick. She actually went to the health clinic on campus, who confirmed it to be H1N1.

It wasn't bad at all. Only one day of it sucked....the rest was just like a bad cold, with a fever mixed in. Although, I might not be typical, since I am extremely healthy.

does that mean you won't get it anymore.. or are you still a candidate for another round.. i hope not

rmorse can still get it just a lesser version of it. Your body has built an immunity to it so if he is exposed to it again the body will fight it off faster then the last time. It is true its not all cut out like its made to be. Had it with the first "outbreak" and within a few days i was done and over it. I think the noro-virus was 10 times way worse....Its just the popparazi new shiny toy and they like to make it seem like the end of the world. Just keep hydrated lots of bed rest and relax and you will be fine. The whole tami-flu treatment is just like taking sugar pills. It works but you might as well take tylenol its 10 times cheaper and over the counter. If you have a serious pre-existing medical condition thats a diffrent story.....
good job liz couldnt of said it better. Go corpsman woooooooo

I am also pretty healthy (eat raw veggies and exercised all summer) and think I had the flu last week. Dry cough (I only actually coughed once, but it burned for two or three days), aches in my knee and hip are still lingering, severe drowsiness for one day (thankfully I was on the bus and slept four daylight hours hours that day and then crashed on the couch for the evening) and mild drowsiness the next day. I didn't get a noticeable fever, but my body temperature has been on the fritz and still is. I'm freezing right now and it's 72ºF in here. No sneezing or anything like that. I hope this was my H1N1 encounter.
