Cold vs. Swine Flu

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know of three people who had confirmed cases of H1N1. All three are in their 40's, only one is a smoker. All three will tell you they have never been so sick in their lives. All three were bed ridden for a week with huge headaches, high fevers and joints that ached so bad they could barely get out of bed. Interesting to note that not one was prescribed tamiflu or anything else. Bedrest and plenty of fluids.

One of our local hospitals currently has 38 people in the ICU with H1N1. Obviously the most vulnerable people. There's currently a big push for respirators in Canada.

This bug seems to be doing very different things in different regions.

And we're still waiting for vaccines to be made available. So far the gov't just released 2 million vaccinations, and none are intended for pregnant women because there is little research into how the vaccine affects the fetus. The feds are still deciding who will get the shots first.

What's crazy is that there is a 30 day incubation period before the vaccine is effective and we're just getting into the flu season.

anyone know what it does to people with asthma? ive got asthma and ive heard it really takes a toll on people with asthma...

This is straight from the cdc.

Anyone with asthma is at higher risk for flu-related complications, such as pneumonia. Along with everyone else, if you have asthma you should: wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing; cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw the tissue away. If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder not your bare hands; avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth (germs are spread that way); and stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.

Antiviral drugs are prescription medicines that can treat seasonal flu or 2009 H1N1 flu. Most people have recovered from 2009 H1N1 without needing medical care and the same is true of seasonal flu. However, it’s very important that antiviral drugs be used early to treat flu in people who are very sick (hospitalized) and people who are sick with flu and have a medical condition that puts them at greater risk of serious flu complications.

thanks everyone for added info... we want MFK to get through flu season with only minor ills so please take all information seriously and wash wash wash...your hands...

Treat and Prevent the Flu with TAMIFLU

  • The #1 doctor-prescribed flu medicine for flu treatment*
  • Approved for adults and children aged 1 year and older
  • Must be taken within 12 to 48 hours from the first appearance of flu symptoms
A flu vaccination is your best chance to protect against the flu. However, flu strains may vary from area to area, so if you are exposed to a strain of the flu that is not the same strain as the one your vaccination protects against, you may still get the flu — and that’s where TAMIFLU may be able to help.
