Hi,

I was wondering, what cold water fish could I put in my 75 gallon aquarium? It'll have ranchus, crown pearl scales, etc

Also, what is a "chinese hi-fin loach"?

Cheers,
LB

Because I'm lazy http://www.aquariumboard.com/forums/articles/4179.htm

If you scroll to the bottom I posted some links with pictures. They're not actually a loach, grow very large and are kind of specialized. I wouldn't really say they're compatable with fancy goldfish since they like a current, and for a 75g tank it will take a long time but they'll grow much too big.

You could try dojo loaches in your coldwater aquarium.

White Cloud Minnows are nice, and love cold water. I recommend checking them out!

What temperature are your fancy's at? Pearlscales like warmer water (73*)...

white cloud minnows are some of my favorties, awesome little schooling fish, i'd go for about a dozen and they're not picky about water temps either. i just had 4 survive a winter out back in my 180g that i put out last summer, i had thought that they had all gotten eaten by birds or something but they lived in water that was at least in the high 50s for a few weeks and they will do ok in the high 70s as well.

Madtom catfish? What are those?

White clouds sound good.

My uncle grewout two Hi-Fins in a 300g....From 3 inches to a foot in a little over a year.....The tank was originally meant for SA fish, so the temp was maintained at 78degrees....MAybe the temperature was the biggest facture in their growth speed....But anyways, these fish can grow big.....

I love ranchus, pobably my favorite of all ornamental goldfish....In San Francisco, the Black Ranchu is considered "rare"....Fat, 5-6in specimen go for $100.....I also enjoy the Oranda....The calicos and the original Orange....My O's must have a FAT, eggy body with a well proportioned, but "bubbly" outgrowth on the forehead....

My 75 gallon goldfish tank also houses guppies. I have wild type (feeders) because fancies would be eaten by the axolotls that are in there too. You can check my Photobucket for pictures of the tank and its inhabitants. Many danios are actually ideally at room temp too. Platies as well. One issue is that whatever goes in needs to be watched carefully because many fish will make a meal of the slime coat on the slow fancy goldfish. ]

How many goldfish do you have?
Filtration?
Water change schedule?

I'd say a Largemouth Bass and a Channel Cat would be good with your goldfish.:grinno:
