white cloud minnows are some of my favorties, awesome little schooling fish, i'd go for about a dozen and they're not picky about water temps either. i just had 4 survive a winter out back in my 180g that i put out last summer, i had thought that they had all gotten eaten by birds or something but they lived in water that was at least in the high 50s for a few weeks and they will do ok in the high 70s as well.

I love White clouds if it wasnt for fact that my pond gets to mid 80s during day during summer would add some . They are impossible to find in Florida .
Someone here posted pic of their Gold type which look great. I had reg and long finned types yrs ago .
I have a pvc 'pond" in my yard its home depot type biggest type they sold think 220 to 240 gallons but 6 months at daytime water temps of over 80 is to much for them my platys-swordtails love it . Mosquito fish I just added.

you could probably get some native species like i have-bluegill. they like cold water.

Those would be too aggressive to go in with goldfish.

Many places do not sell native, making them only available by capturing them from the wild. This can introduce lots of pathogens.

I would go with minnows, they're the safest thing to add in with your fancy goldfish.

could always go with giant danios.

i have 2 in my 55g goldfish tank, whre they bee for the last 2+ years. they swim around eating the smaller bits of food the goldfish spit out, since i feed them pond sticks which are too big to be eaten whole by the danios smaller mouths.

their a common fish, but always an option to add a darker silverish fish with the brighter goldies

you can put in some bluegill. You can find em at petco in the feeder tanks if your lucky. I got a 1.5 incher in the koi tank. the guy tried to sell it for the price of the koi, but i told him it wasnt a koi, but a bluegill so he let me have it for the price of the large feeders.

Bluegills are too aggressive to be in with goldfish.

Many giant danios are too active or nippy to be in with many goldfish.
