I'm sorry but thats really bad advice. Not only would it be extremely stressful for the fish involved, but you would have no idea what fish you had and thus you wouldn't know how to look after them properly etc.


Its like someone asking you "i want to keep a bird", and you saying "Oh just go down to your local woodland and cage what you can catch".

This is a good point......

You must know the fishes before you keep them. You should also read up on the law before you just start grabbing fish and putting them in a tank. I guess it's a good time to mention that once you take a fish from the wild you're responsible to keep it until death. You can't even put the fish back in the same waters you took it from (it's against the law and for good reason).
 
Yellow perch are also good starters and likely to locally available.
