If that is a piece of a dock it is likely pressure treated lumber, which may contain copper arsenate or something similar. This is a poison that keeps fungi and insects from devouring the dock, and it will likely be very harmful or fatal to your fish in an aquarium. I would stick with natural roots and logs, etc, unless you know for sure it is not PT lumber!

That board is very old, And somewhat soft. I am guessing it was just lumber used to support a fish house, but who knows? I think by now it's probably leached everything it's going to.

just keep an eye on that board, but i think you are right ewurm.

but the hot water probably wouldn't do it for me.....i'd ad a little bit of bleach to the water aswell. try maybe a 1:20 bleach to water ratio, and then rinse well and put it into a tub with a lot of w/e you use for declor for your tap water.

I have used bleach on wood, takes a lot of the color out. The fish are doing well, I'll keep an eye out for funny behavior, but it's looking good for now.

I usually just rinse, boil and then stick them in the freezer to sterilize my stuff of nasties.

so you broke your neighbors fence down, why?

ahahah totaly kidding
:D

i like that long branchy one
:D

Im anxious to see how you incorporate the board into your aquascaping.

You'd be amazed at what some fish can live through. I've seen tanks with healthy fish that have been in the tank for nearly a decade. This tank had a boot, rusty cans, motor oil containers etc.

It's in the tank, in the back. Might rescape after a while.
