Not that they'll admit!

Most states have regulations banning the collection of native herps...

its not banned all you need is a fishing licence and it is not a bad thing if you dont collect over the limits provided by the state. how do you think all the animals in the pet trade came to be here in the first place. im not bashing anyone for or against it im just stating facts. i have not even done this myself even though i would like to my mom would flip if i brought home lizards and snakes lol

Most animals today on the pet trade are cb, in some species is virtualy inpossible to get wild cauths. Even if you are into local animals you should get them as cb, Im shure someone works with your local herps, they would be much healtier, stress and parasite free and you wouldnt help in wild populacion decline;)

Whether or not it is legal, it is still a bad idea. Feel free to go searching for the herps, but bring a camera if you want to take something home with you. Leave the herp in its natural environment.

Otherwise, you are just hurting our hobby.

Obviously every species in the pet trade industry came from the wild at some point, but that doesn't mean you should continue taking them from the wild. Captive bred specimens are generally healthier and less likely to carry diseases anyway.

You cannot collect specimen with a fishing license. You need a collector's permit which is a privilege, not a right, in California. Don't give advice that you're not familiar with, you can get people into BIG trouble, especially with all the DFG BS going on right now in our state.
