You CANNOT take fish or game with a license to keep it alive. Whether its for pleasure or research, there is a separate and special permit.

This reference was to "fish or game" ---> NOT reptiles/amphibians.

The point was that DFG is VERY picky. Simply having a license is not a paid-for right to start picking up things in your yard...

the only regs are these animals are only for personal use and certian species arent to be collected

Other way around, ONLY certain species CAN be collected. Big difference.

i already know all those things as you can see i posted the link in a previous post i know what im looking at when im on hikes and understand the laws thank you for the post

Yes, but obviously, you didn't understand what you read. Your other posts were rather deviant from the actual laws.

I didn't mean to come out disturbed, I just had a long day. lol

Time for a :chillpill: with my glass of wine. :nilly:

I think this got a little off topic. He just wanted to know if anyone here did any collecting or not. I only see garters and very rarely a gopher snake this far north on the cali coast and we have lots of amphibians. But my friends brother found a nice little Pacific Rattler for him at a construction site and built him a cage for his B-day. As was stated by someone earlier rattlesnakes are not protected and can be taken by any means with the standard bag/possession limit of 2. Unfortunately for the rattlers most people just kill them because they are dangerous and unprotected.

You cannot collect specimen with a fishing license. You need a collector's permit which is a privilege, not a right, in California. Don't give advice that you're not familiar with, you can get people into BIG trouble, especially with all the DFG BS going on right now in our state.

Yes you can collect with a fishing license in California. Its on the license, but you can not collect endanger species, you have a bag limit on how many you can catch and you can not collect to sell to the pet trade. To sell to the pet trade you need a collector's permit.

Thanks for joining the party late.

You cannot collect/catch just anything you want. It doesn't have to be endangered to be excluded. ONLY what's listed may be caught/collected.

Selling, propogating, transporting, and studying/scientific reasons must also obtain a permit, not just for the "pet trade"

My point was to be safe. A ticket is not worth it. reptile/amphibians are under different rules. FISH AND GAME do not fall under the same provisions. You cannot take fish home and throw it into an aquarium.

when i was a kid, i caught bull frogs, a leapoard frog, alligator lizards, blue belly lizards, even a gecko once and two gopher snakes at diff. times. But now, seems they are all gone from my area.
