Bluegill (1st pic) are a type of sunfish. So are bass (2nd pic). They are freshwater. But there is a saltwater sunfish also (3rd fish).

BWHAHAHAHA!!! yeah so bluegills are available here, but you really want to catch a "crappie", meanest perch I ever had :) can't find the pictu4re, you can google eh?

If you know somebody with a private pond or lake it would be easiest to collect fish in that. I collect all my fish from a friend of my dads pond. Just ask the person for permission to collect but first see what they have in the pond if anything. A minnow trap is the easiest way to collect sunfish. Just throw some food in it leave it for the night come back in the morning and you have yourself some fish. Good luck it will be easy for you to find bluegill. They are all over.

cool pics

but where does everyone catch bluegill in southern california?
my neighbor goes to El Dorado Park off the 605 FWY and Spring Street Exit. He uses a small hook and mealworms to get them..plus a bobber

You can catch them just about anywhere. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a body of (fresh) water without them...lol...I remeber swimming in the lakes and ponds when I was a kid and the blue gill and perch would nip a t your toes...

ok so if i use a minnow trap, what keeps them in it? wont they just swim back through the hole? what do i use for bait? Can i make one out of a soda bottle?

well i found a place where i can collect bluegill. Do you think i would be able to keep a few bluegills in with a tire track eel in a 70 gallon?
