Collecting local driftwood

I found this one in a creek in Jacksonville FL. It's about 4 ft. long. I let it dry out for about 6 months or more. Not by choice but because I didn't have anything big enough to soak it in. During our move though, I had emptied my 125 and it was the perfect opportunity to do it. I bought a brine block ( a big block of salt used in a water softener) and put it in the tank with the log. Nothing could have lived through that. I let it soak for about a week then I let it soak in clean water, changing it daily for about 5 days. I didn't fill the tank with fresh water, just enough to cover the log.

I wasn't about to risk just soaking the log in fresh water. That's what kind of water the parasites live in and seems pointless to me.

I would use a couple of things. Pour boiling water over it, dry it out, and put it in water that you can change regularly before you put it in the tank. Also, this last one is a little risky but you might want to try it. Soke the wood in chlorine water, as much chlorine content as you can get withought changing the color of the wood. Then, after a few days, use aquarium water preping stuff (for tap water) to take the chlorine out. Absolutely nothing can live through that.

Heres mine, I pured boiling water on it, dried it out and changed it's water alot. I didn't chlorine it, but I have done that before. It's been doing fine so far.
