LMAO!!!! Someone notify the Bleeding Heart Fish Police over at Liberal Aquaria Central that someone other than ol' "sly" made a mean and cruel statement against fish!

woot I went fishing today (I don't think its considered collecting though lol)

I brought my minnow trap and put a shrimp in it (the frozen kind that has been defrosted to give it an extreme shrimp smell) but I didn't get anything.

The hook and line didn't get anything either because it took me 2 hours to untangle the line from the minnow trap line (I hooked my own minnow trap lmao)

at first I used shrimp but the people next to me caught some stripers with worms so I switched to worms. When the sun went down, I switched back to the shrimp which are now giving off an extreme stench (lol catfish time!) to catch the catfish in that river.

At the end, I went home at 9:00 (15 mins ago lol) empty handed... I shoulda tried the corn to see if I could get a carp... or used the oatmeal for the trout....

I didn't breing the cast net because:

1. the river was deep
2. I'm on a high ledge
3. the river is also wide so the fish aren't close to shore
4. the bottom isn't even (there are telephone poles down there :D
5. the bottom is quite dirty (after pulling my minnow trap out, I put my hand into the water and sniffed it... it smelled like metal)

I would recommend the cast net before any other way of catching. I love my net, and I catch all kind of things I never seem to catch any other way. I catch lots of bream, a lot of minnows, and I've caught white bass, largemouth bass, channel catfish, turtles and carp. I usually throw the net out over boat landings, where the won't be any rock, limbs, or telephone poles (lol). You can catch fish for a surprisingly long time before they vacate the premises, if the water isn't really clear. I used to use a rod and reel to catch all my aquarium inhabitants, but I've tried to add smaller guys lately, and most of the time what I catch on rod and reel is a little bigger than what I am looking for. I catch lots of little guys with my cast net. I've tried minnow traps, but all I seem to catch are crayfish and these long eel looking salamander things with little tiny feet.

For those out there who do use a throw net, have you noticed any difference in the survival of fish caught with a nylon net versus a monofilament net?

I hate when people ask for advice then dont listen and just go with what they think is best...

No really.... come to Boston... I'll show you the place where I fish... I can't use certain gear there and plus I don't have dog food. I am fishing on a ledge with a barrier (so people won't fall in)

Ther aren't any boat places nearby so I can't use the cast net.

I will use it when I go to a pond.

The minnow trap I tried for the first time in a river.

I'm asking for advice and I'm not going with what I think best. I am going with what I can and can't do physically because of my surroundings. I really hate it when people can't read.
