College fish keepers?

Live off campus. Im full time student living off campus luckily in a townhouse my parents bought so I keep a 165g tank. On campus was 10g limit

I would highly recommend living in the dorms for your first year and getting an apartment after if you so choose. I wouldn't trade my first year in the dorms for anything, even my fish. Just like being a senior in high school, you only get one shot at being a freshman in college. Make the most of it. If you're like me, I didn't really enjoy high school but I had a blast at college. Have your family take care of your fish until you get an apartment. The only time I'd recommend living off campus is if you insist on breaking the rules be it smoking, underage drinking, whatever. There are too many people that insist on doing those things and get angry at the RA's when they get kicked out. Don't be that guy.

But then again, I'm also a full time employee who works no less than 48 hours a week and a father of a five month old. Somehow I don't think I'm in a position to give you the advice you're looking for lol

Much respect. As a full time college student working only 24 hours a week you make me feel like a serious slacker lol. Add in the child and you're working the equivalent of 3 full time jobs!

They only did one planned inspection and the beds were like 3ft tall so it was pretty easy to hide a rabbit cage under there lol. We just covered it in a blanket and put some boxes in front right before they came in, and luckily the rabbit didn't make a sound. It really depends on the room layout tho, our dorms were like 3 room suites with a front door so the RAs and cops only came in to break up parties. The newer dorms they built were big 4-story buildings with an open hall in the middle and 3-person rooms on each side, so it would've been impossible to hide stuff in those rooms cuz 50 people could look in when u opened the door.

Even in the suites there wouldn't have been enough room for a big tank tho. We only had space for the rabbit because my roommate dropped out before the 2nd semester, so my gf and I had the whole room to ourselves and put the beds together on one side :cool: Btw, most apartments have a 10g limit too so u might be stuck with a nano unless u decide to be sneaky about it. My apt manager did an inspection a few years ago and it was a huge pain hiding a 90 and 100g tank, not to mention moving 15 fish to my friend's house to keep in his (stocked) tanks overnight

The scary part was the owner actually opened the closet door and peeked in, but that was only because they were looking for something else (alleged horticultural activities that can't be discussed here lol). Even in the dorms I had my room searched 3 times by the cops because someone snitched that I had a fake ID and was buying 30 packs for different rooms every night. So hiding fish is a walk in the park for me, but I made a lot of bad decisions in school so u probably shouldn't listen to my advice lol
