Clean looking tank, nice looking guys and gals you got there!

well the only way is to vent them like everyone else said.. and mike had a good idea about using a jewelers loupe-or a magnifying glass if you cant see the holes too well.

regardless, they are really beautiful and i love your tank!

Ok, I'll run an Emperor 400 in the 55 g for about a week to get it cycled and then established a 30 g to separate some fish. I will take out the ones with bars and then I'll try to vent the rest. Thanks for the help and suggestions. I'll keep posting the results. Thanks a million.

Behavior patterns will reveal a lot, I submit that venting isn't always necessary (despite how identical the genders appear to your eyes, the cichlids know which gender is which). A close observation on behavior can reveal a lot.

In a species tank, venting might not be necessary, and you'll need some way to visually keep track of which fish was vented and which gender it is.

There are also other physical gender cues which don't involve netting the fish (shape of fin tips, relative size of the pelvic fins, etc).

What species is that striped mbuna in with them?

Well that's what I'm trying to ID. I'm new to African Cichlids but doing a lot of research in the WEB. Check the pictures I got.
