What do you guys do for cichla color? Those that Photoshop don't count. Come on guys.......sharing is caring.
I'm thinking collection point or parents are not main factors but do contribute. Very little.

Examples from the koi world.
Krill and spirulina boost red but too much turns white to pink.
Cooler water temp brings out black.
pH/minerals affects white.

My big farmie goes through some major color changes. I found smelt to have a very negative effect on p-bass coloring, which sucks because rays really like it.

Massivore really makes him pop when I feed solely massivore for a long period of time he will be blinging.

My bass eat massivores and shrimp with the shells on.

And the results are as fellowed :

Damn!!! Great looking pbass.
Out of the 8 pbass I have only 2 eat shrimp and one just started accepting with the shell on. The other only eats cooked. I have a 13"-14" pbass that was raised on shrimp from 3". I got him at 13" and once I got him on pellets he won't even touch shrimp. If he does eat shrimp he spits it out right away.

Do you find shrimp adds a lot to the colour?? Especially the reds?

I agree. Smelt is also very nasty to armatus. I take it back....it's deadly.

That my friend is a supplement called Chitosan. Body builders, medical, weight loss and aquaculture uses it. Chitosan controls the absorption of fat and is derived from shellfish (shrimp shell, crab shell,.....). Basically it makes you leaner and meaner. This improved health will help you fight illnesses and in fish it will be fungal infections etc.
Sloppy fat kois are given Chitosan to firm up prior to competition but too much will cause diarrhea.
Your collection is looking good. I might have to start feeding Chitosan because my cichlas are fat. But I like big butt.
