So here is my question, I know I want to paint 3 of the 4 sides of the tank to keep as much light from escaping as I can. Do I black, or another color that will reflect light and not absorbe it like th black does.

This is for a new tank I am planning since I finally got my frist planted tank up.

id use either black or a blue color to avoid looking too weird. it seems as though a light blue would reflect light the most

white would reflect the most light.

white is a way to bright and you loose the color of the fish, I thought black was the way to go.

it's too bright because it reflects the most light, which is all i was saying. i never said it would look good.

my 55 is painted black and i love it

but its not for those that love tanks that 'pop'

depending on what type of fish you have, of course it can cause them to deepen in color too...which i like

If you want to try something new go with a mirrored background on the 3 sides.

black looks the best but will absorb the most light like stated before. white will reflect the most light and would look fine if you have the tank highly planted. i went with a light sky/ocean blue on my most recent tank and i love it it keeps light in but doesnt wash the colors out to much it really comes to personal choice. the closer the color is to white the more light will be in the tank the closer it is to black the less light so find a color you like.
