Coloration due to stress?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Idk I added the proper amount of drops I didn't think anything of it I just figured clear was good if there was ammonia there would be a color idk

Clear is not good, and test your high range PH as it looks high. 88f is fine, with that size I would prefer 84-86, but as long as you have added O2 and current it wouldn't stress him.

Yeah I have O2 and a current. My PH has always been somewhat high but that's just my city water, I've had no issue as far as PH goes. It's weird I'll walk in the room and he will be down in between the wood and this color but as soon as he sees me he is front and center begging for food and has his normal color

Yeah something is wrong, I have been using that same test kit for years and I have never seen anything clear with them.. even if everything is perfect at 0 ppm it should still be the colors on the card not clear.. I would buy a new kit if I use you, I just had this same problem with my Nitrates on my kit, It was reading way higher then it really was...

There are /two/ bottles for Ammonia and Nitrate tests, I think you are missing the color developer for both!! And be sure to invert them and shake the living heck out of those bottles before adding the drops.

My orino will also do large color changes like that, but those are all behavior related (she is normally light colored, and will go dark right as feed her and photograph her -- basically whenever she is excited). I think all your bass would be happier if your pH was lower. Try for 6.5-6.8. Temperature is fine, since you have enough current and oxygen in the water.

Bottle number 1 of the nitrate test will make the color of the water in the tube immediately yellow. With it being clear, I suspect you put in bottle #2 first.

Mine looks similar sometimes when I do water changes, but he has never been sick... I always figured it was a little stress that's all.

I mean he's fine he's eating fine and loses that color when I come in the room. Just had a really bad day yesterday and it freaked me out. Went to pick up 2 12" Bass for a buddy and my water pump in my car went out on the way home and both Tems died. :/
