Colorful bluegill Id with picture

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I might be showcasing one of these boys soon. I wonder if any other bluegill variants are living in the lake. Id love to get a warmouth if I could.

That was a weird story. From what I gather he was saying, he hadn't yet agreed to waive his clause for any team in particular. Essentially he would do it for the right team but as of that moment there was no deal in place. I think that's one of the reasons this trade sucked so much. He wanted to go to Tampa and all Tampa wanted to give was Matt Walker and a 4th rounder. Since Holmgren's hands were tied I guess he just had to accept. Walkers nasty but we have already have 6 solid d-men. He also hit the cap pretty hard for a 7th guy. We'll see if somethings not in the works still. Until then at least he fights, Flyers hockey is important around here.

Pumpkinseed and warmouth aren't bluegill. Bluegill are bluegill.

I'm down here in MD and the pumpkinseed is easy to come by. I live on the Magothy River, I throw a cast and catch them anywhere from 2-9 inches in size. I've opted to put a few smaller ones 2-3 inches, in my tank, as well as some juvenile white and yellow perch. I commonly catch the perch, pumpkinseed, and young pickerel with the net. Once I can afford to upgrade to larger tanks, I'll be bringing home the bigger ones.

I live in really close proximity, less than a mile, to the river, so I go catch grass shrimp and minnows once or twice a week to feed them, I haven't tried to get them off live food yet, but it appears to be pretty tough. Once the weather turns, I'll have to start trying to get them off live foods!

Hey MFK. My buddy caught this fish sunday and I was curious if anyone could give me a positive Id. I told him I thought it might be a pumpkinseed but I wasn't sure. I'm pissed, I should have kept it for my tank, but we just showed up to this new spot and it was a twenty minute drive. Lose lose situation. Neat fish either way. And dude, the Flyers trade Gagne for who? Eh!

Go Tampa!! Stevie Y is a jedi!!!

Pumpkinseed Sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus)

The pumpkinseed sunfish is Native to the northeastern part of the USA from New Brunswick to South Carolina, but has also been stocked in others areas, including Europe where its considered an invasive.
They are capable of attaining up to 16 inches but are much more typically found at 6 to 8 inches when full grown.

As is shown by your pic the pumpkinseed is one of the most beautiful species of Sunfish available.

The ones ive kept in aquariums, have been pretty good when it comes to being low on the aggression scale, when compared to other sunfish such as the Green or even surprisingly the much smaller Dollar sunfish.
