Colorful companions for CL's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have shoals of congo tetras, bala sharks, and roseline sharks with my clowns. The balas are a little more skittish than I would like, but the hubby likes them. ;) I have a weather loach in with my clowns. Everyone gets along fine. The current in your tank will most likely have a negative effect on your discus. Been there, tried that. Unfortunately, I had to put the discus in their own tank. Just my experience though. If you decide to give it a shot I suggest having a well established back-up tank in case it doesn't work out. Good Luck & Enjoy!

I put assorted rainbows in with my clowns. I have heard putting discus in with clowns can really stress out the discus since clowns are so active, never tried it though.

I like them too! They have different, cool colors that seem to glow and it's fun to watch them sift sand. If you try earth eaters my recommendation is to have a large tank (they grow fast) and enough logs or hides they can fit into and claim for themselves in addition to having some for your loaches, because IME they got territorial and killed a couple of my clowns before I figured out who the culprits were. I didn't have enough hides at the time and tank space was a little cramped.

Don't go for Red Head Tapajos. They are more aggressive. I think Acarichthys Heckelii (Threadfin acara) would be nice and they don't get as large

One more question;

What other loaches go well with Clowns?
Any of the other larger botiine loaches will do fine. I would say the blue botia/Redtail Botia/Red-finned Loach (Yasuhikotakia modesta and sometimes Botia modesta) would be best. The ladder loach (Botia rostrata), yoyo loach (Botia almorhae), Bengal loach (Botia dario) are some that don't get nearly as large as the clowns but are large enough to not be seen as food. They would also add some variety.
