Colormax, true actinic, kelvins... oh my

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For the plants you have I'd be aiming for 4 wpg. My 135 has 2x 48" 260W 6700K cf hoods, 1x 24" 130W 6700K cf hood, 2x 36" 36W 10,000K HO T5 hoods. I'd be getting a lot more lighting for your tank, and soon.

nice!!:D sounds like a sweet setup. anyways, this is good advice. swords are root absorbers so make sure you use good ferts and substrate. add the lights and your plants will be growing like weeds.

So what kind of hood would you recommend I purchase to supplement my current arrangement?

Also, I think I may be stuck with the saltwater light so I was wondering where I could get replacement bulbs for the hood. I looked on ESUs site but none of the hoods in their pictures look like mine. Mine are extremely small and flat. I attached some pictures just for clarification.

The lights you have are just T5 bulbs. You can get replacement bulbs, and just switch them out. Personally, I'd go with a set of 72" HO T5 bulbs.

6700k bulbs in a aquatinics 6' fixture would be a amazing set up wich is 14@39watt

At 54 watts for a 72" light bulb, those would be normal output T5 bulbs. HO T5 bulbs are often 1W per inch or more. The 72" HO T5 bulbs I was looking at were 104 W each.

Those bulbs can be found pretty much anywhere they sell the fixtures. if you do the 72" HO unit, which by the way is a sweet unit, then add the other fixtures in conjunction. This would give you a ton more watts and better growth. have fun

When we start looking at HO T5 bulbs, the watts are becoming more of a mute point. HO T5 operate with a much better lumen and lux than most other lights.

How many watts would I need per bulb and how many bulbs? Will a pair of 72" HO T5s @ 104 watts be sufficient?

My main concern at this point is keeping my newly purchased foreground plants really short (glossotigma, quadrifolia minutia).
