How big where they when you converted them to SW? I'm interested in doing the same thing with my Colombian soon.

I know they are brackish water fishes..BUT some people kept them in only freshwater for a long time and they lived..Please share your experience in keeping in freshwater and for how long?
What do you consider a "long time"? Forcing a fish to live in conditions not best suited for them causes lowered immune systems, disease & shorter lifespan.
Get some RO water, some marine salt and a hydrometer and you're set.
If you use RO water to make BW, you must reconstitute the minerals, etc. with something like Kent's Osmoprep.

i would say by the time they are 6 inches you should start adding salt and then eventually go to full brackish.. which is what i did and mine are doing great.. at 13 inches now..when should i go full marine??
