Thank you..
They are nice because they are always action with out getting into anything.. kind of mind their own business but they are everywhere.. I hope you do get more.

I'm actually looking to adopt out 2 6" columbian cats. They were an uninformed impulse buy, and they're huge and healthy right now but we don't have the space or the funds for a brackish tank. I'm in Ithaca, NY zip 14850. I have a couple of potential adopters and a LFS that would take them, but we're still open to offers. Free to the right person (plus shipping if that person is interested.)

Can they be kept in freshwater for their entire life span or will they die if not moved into a brackish tank later in their life? I saw some babies at my LFS and was considering on possibly getting one to put in my first tank that I'm in the process of getting set up. Yours look absolutely beautiful, it really seems like you take excellent care of them.

They can be in fresh water for a short period of time.. then they have to be in brackish as they mature.. at least this is what we have learned.. and they have to be slowly accustomed to it.. thank you very much..so far mine are doing very well..

I do not think there is any rush to adding salt {marine salt} but it is something that you will need to do in the near future until you have a complete brackish tank... I cannot give you exact time frame because we did it very slowly over a year..how much salt to start adding depends on the size of your tank... you can take your time and research it ..there is also a brackish section here on MFK. But there is no hurry as long as he was in fresh water at the LFS ... As they mature they should be in brackish. Congradulations on your new baby and post picture soon. ;)

thanks for the help, i have a hard time getting a decent picture of him because hes always moving so fast

oh and also, anyone want to suggest some tankmates, hes by himself in a 30 long right now, i know ill have to get a bigger tank in a few months but maybe i could get some young tankmates that i could move to the bigger tank with him later?
