I've got a school (7) blue/red Columbian tetras, and one is looking beaten up.
Little black spots, missing scales and some apparent tears in the opercular plates, but these tears are the same on the two sides which should not happen if he's being attacked or ganged up on. Fins are not damaged, just skin/scales.
This is new- i've had these fish for a good year and have added nothing new since so no access for (parasitic) disease. Is it aggression within the school? Breeding or seasonal (summer temperature about 29&30C)?
The fish is eating, but also off in the back. It's a mid-sized animal within the school and, if I was guessing, seems to be male (a little longer/thinner than some).
One of the larger/fatter ones (female?) also has one black spot, so I worry.
I've done major water changes 2x this week, though just saw this problem now. A little salt is added for infection.
