i cant imagine that would be a good idea. a 10" gar might see that as prey.

gars will be fine with the bichir, but most likely not with the payara...gars can't resist a bright silvery fish (no matter what the size), and if they are only half the size, it doesn't bode well for the payara--

I agree. I found that out the hard way after buying a few Tinfoil barbs. They were way to big for my Florida Gar to eat but he couldn't resist biting the tails off those shiny fish!

i tried my silver aro w/ my trop when they were the same size and the trop nearly killed the aro over the period of one work day. gar are very much attracted to shiny objects.

Yeah, the gar would probably end up getting rid of the payara.

okay, here's another combo. bonytongue with gars, WILL IT WORK? i dont know what size the bowfin'll be. but is it safe? and what sizes would be compat? other tankmates

nice to see that you did your own research

i am going to be trying my silver arowana again in my gar tank. the last time she was still a bit small and the trop took a few swipes at her. now that she is putting some weight and overall size on i think she will be ok. i will probably be attempting this again around the 1st of the year.
