hello, i would really like to combinate the two arowana species african and silver somewhere in the future, i know arowana's are usually not good combining with each other but because african arowana's are more arapaima's i thought mayeb it was possiblw?

thanks in advance

does that rule apply when combining several species (like 1 silver, 1 black, and 1 asian?) or is it like 3 of the same species?

A trio would be best. I'm not sure on the temperament on the afro, but the silver will likely try to start stuff with it. A trio would spread out any aggression and keep the community healthy.

Have to try it, to find out. If your going to try to cohabitat multiple arowana you need to be able to separate them at a monments notice if things go bad. Having three or more guarentees nothing except that you'll need more separate tanks if it don't work.

thats a very true post, Bderick67.
i would love to have a combination of black, african and silver arowana, currently im raising a silver arowana.
i dont think im gonna do it, if none of you say it's a 100 percent succes, then im not gonna take the risk for the sake of my fish.
thanks for the replies!

2 young silvers beat up a 6" jardini in a 120 gallon. So, tonight I picked up the jar just for the fun of it and as an experiment. If it don't work out, my buddy will take it. It's been about 9 years since I had a jardini. Way to bring back memory lane......

I keep three black arowanas 15-16" and four silver arowanas, 1 18"+ and 3 that are 6-7". This is kept in a 180 grow out. There is no aggression. The largest silver aro was a rescue. I have all my aros pellet trained but the previous owner of the largest arowana was feeding it mice, large goldfish all live food. Hes been in this tank for about one month. I use to have a 7" arapaima in with the blacks and silver with no problems. But i remove him to be cautious of the new silver.

Just make sure you have an extra tank to be ready to remove him if anything went wrong. I use to have problems between the three smaller aros. I had to remove one and then power feed him, then a couple weeks later i put him back and hes fine now

I got a 300 with a black, silver, jardini, and a Afro. You would think that there would be aggression with the jar but guess again! The problem is with the Afro and it's the smallest! Silver is almost 2', black is 18", jar is 16", and Afro is at 15". Mostly the Afro picks on the silver and sometimes the black. Once in awhile the jar and Afro go at it but the jar puts the Afro in its place lol. Getting to the point where I just want to get rid of the Afro! A couple of my friends also said that their Afro was aggressive and got rid theirs for this reason.
