Comets for a Cycle....

Hey~

I am cycling 2 tanks and I have a question.....

I will not do the rotted meat thing, or a fishless cycle. I have used the filter media from my 125 for the 38.

and the 55 is using cycle every day (also bio stars that I had floating in my 20L for bacteria)

I am thinking of adding Comets to cycle the tanks....

Here is my real ??

The Comets are essentially feeders, since they will be basicly quarantined for 2 weeks or so......

(I am against store bought feeders)

But my buddy want the comets for his oscar after the 2 weeks, do you think that is sufficent for essentially cleaning out these fish and make them safe to use as feeders??

I will not do it if the thought is no....as I said, I am against feeders (store bought - Not home raised...(Convict fry)) not only because of the horrible conditions that these feeders are subjected to, and the diseases that result from such conditions, but also because of the bad habit that forms when a fish get the taste for them, and then bypasses his pellets and stuff. If my fish get feeders, it is maybe 1-2 times every few months. I stick to the Pellets/Sticks and frozen mysis, krill, blood worms, brine shrimp.

Thoughts??
 
But would they be cleaned out enough to use as feeders??

You took the media out of the 125 and put it in the 55? What is providing food for the bacteria?

IMO Cycle is crap... Biospira works this I know.

Where did you get the comets? Not from the store I hope! Could leave some nasties behind in the tank your about to use... pump up the temp and speed up ALL the life cycles in the tank.
 
Just some, and I was asking if Comets would be good to use for cycling purposes, then giving them to my buddy for his Oscar after 2 weeks of use.
 
I understood you didn`t take all the media out... my question is "What is providing Ammonia for the 55?"

From what you said it seems you have started the "Cycles" already... and now want to add comets.:)
 
Their waste combined with the cultured media and the cycle to get the tank off and running...
 
My bads the media went into the 38... and the "Cycle" is providing ammonia for both tanks? Or the "Cultered media" is? Or did you add the comets already?:confused: Bear with me I can be kinda slow at times:D
