It took a long time but to get to this point, but I think it is time to switch some tanks around, and that furture does not look good for my mbuna. I do not speack CA/SA very well, so I am hoping to find some answers as well as some advice.

I have a 5ft, 110 gal tank to work with and would like a pair of Vieja synspilum or something similar (I know my best efforts may not = pair, but I can dream). I think the fish looks great but was not sure if a 5' tank would be larger enough for the long term. I kinda want to stay away from a large community, I don't know if I have the time to try a million combos to find the perfect fit.

I look forward to reading your posts, thanks for looking.

I would think that aggressive CAs are the dark side? :)

That's a little small for an adult syn pair but you would have some time until they got that large. Are there any other species you're interested in?

I think I agree with you, after looking at some of the fish here, this seems to be the dark side. Would one Syn color up right by itself. I don't mind the wet pet idea, I just thought a pair would be more interesting to watch assuming room. At the end of the day (when ever this day happens), I just want a really cool big fish, as long as it is ok in the 110.
I welcome ideas!

Thanks,
Mark

I already have a 4' EBJD, 6' Green Terror, 5' JD, all in different tanks and I really don't want any of them in the 110. Other than those 3, all my other tanks are mbuna.

In my opinion a cuban pair would not work in a 110 but you could always try it. Synspillum are more on the mellow side of that group of fish and it could possiblly work. I know i would try it. If sometime down the road you felt it was a little cramped you could up grade a bit but I honestly think a pair would work in that tank. Good luck. I would get them.

Synspillum along with most Vieja and Paratheraps get too big for a 110...like 15-16" given the space and time to grow. A pair of Escondido or Loisellei would look fantastic in that tank. Some people consider them common but a pair of green terrors are very beautiful and wouldn't outgrow the tank. And someone mentioned Lyonsi, you can't go wrong with a pair of those either....sorry I'm not helping you narrow it down much lol.

I agree a pair of Lyonsi or GTs would be great in that tank, if you want somthing a little different than the common Gold Saum you could get a pair of Andinoacara stalsbergi. Either way I don't like getting the maximum size fish for a specific tank these two options will allow the fish to be comfortable for life in your 110 and both species look great.

Thanks guys for the replies and sugestions (great looking fish). My main goal is long term good for the fish. I have no plans for a larger tank, so I want something that works this year and in five years. If you think of any others that would work in a 110 let me know. Thanks for all the help.
